A Happy Harry Potter Halloween

Published by bitty at 7:59 pm under 2804 Edit This

Well folks, Halloween is just around the corner. And no: I don’t mean the impending election, scary as it may appear from a murky distance.

This year, after promising myself last year that I would be a Harry Potter character for Halloween, I will actually do it.

No, seriously. “I solemnly swear I am up to no good!”

Last year, I was supposed to be the password barricade for a HelluvaWeen party, Gryffindor style: a la the Fat Lady in the pink dress portrait, that covers the entrance to the Gryffindor common room. So I was all set to dress up, hold a picture frame around my head, and demand passwords or refuse entrance.

But then I got sick, and since there was no Madam Pomfrey to cure my ailments, I missed out.

But alas, this year, you shalt not escape mine clutches! I will dress as a figment of J.K. Rowling’s imagination, or shall duel Sir Cadogan in the attempt!

But which witch, you might ask?

Well, here are some of my favorite, recurring top contenders:

Professor Trelawney. What a frustrating, lovable, hare-brained Divination instructor. Easy to mimic with her dangling shawls, strings of beads, over-sized glasses, and give-away cooking sherry bottles, Trelawney remains hilarious.

And then there’s Rita Skeeter: acid-green outfit, bejeweled spectacles, and a Quick Quotes Quill easily fabricated from a craft store feather. You can “bug” everyone at the party with insensitive questions about their pasts, heavily biased and embellished.

Those are my two top contenders for Halloween costumes this year.

What are yours?
